Abstract

Many Automated Guided Vehicles currently in use are dependent upon external means for their source of guidance. These external guidance devices range from electric wires to cables placed on the floor. To get away from external control of the vehicles it was conceptualized to control a vehicle of this nature strictly by internal means. The complete control of this vehicle would be commanded by a portable laptop computer. The basic concept would be to enter in the desired path the programmer wants the vehicle to follow, then by relying on sensors to give the velocity of the vehicle the position is determined by an integration scheme. The main purpose of this thesis is to study the feasibility of this particular guidance vehicle. In this thesis is a discussion of the prototypes design, performance results, and recommendations.
