Computer aided design of algorithmic state controllers for digital systems
An Algorithmic State Machine (ASM) is dedicated sequential machine which may be preferred to perform high speed data manipulation in digital systems. The design of these machines is simplified when computer aided design software is available. This thesis presents a Pascal program named ASMDESIGN which derives the logic truth table of an ASM from the user's description given in flowchart form. A typical session with this program is presented along with practical examples. The ASMDESIGN program operates on the TI-990/12 minicomputer and various software development techniques are presented. Pascal development tools, such as the configuration processor (CONFIG), are discussed using the ASMDESIGN program as an example. A detailed software presentation is included and the Texas Instruments Pascal (TIP) source code is also included for future work on this project. Certain program limitations are presented along with suggestions for future modifications and enhancements to the software.
