Abstract

The purpose of these experiments was to study the effectiveness of aluminum sulfate hydrate in reducing the harmful effects of excessive amounts of fluorine being ingested by cattle and sheep. Various phases of these experiments included the effects on:


1. Feed consumption.

2. Weight gains.

3. The ability of cattle to digest crude fiber, crude protein, ether extract, and nitrogen-free extract.

4. Metabolic balance of fluorine, calcium, phosphorus, and nitrogen in cattle.

5. Reproduction and performance of calves and lambs.

6. Storage of fluorine in the bones.

7. Teeth.

The experiment with cattle is in progress at this time and experiments with sheep have been completed.
