Abstract

The major drawback of many finite element structural codes is the assumption of linear material behavior. An algorithm is presented which approximates nonlinear material properties with a piecewise linear solution. A computer code is developed to utilize the algorithm in the analysis of reinforced concrete structures. Due to difficulty in coding the algorithm, several suggestions are made for the completion and improvement of the computer program.
