A survey of the aquatic insects of Crane Prarie Reservoir, Deschutes County, Oregon
A study of game fish diet overlap, followed by the illegal introduction of non-native fish into Crane Prairie Reservoir, spurred interest in the aquatic insect fauna of the reservoir. The results of a survey of the reservoir during the summers of 1997 and 1998 are presented here. Sixty-eight taxa of aquatic insects are recorded here. Three of these are new state records for Oregon, one is an undescribed species, and undescribed morphological variation is discussed in three others. The new state records are Caenis youngi Romehild (Ephemeroptera: Caenidae), Callicorixa alaskensis Hungerford (Heteroptera: Corixidae), and Polycentropus flavus (Banks) (Trichoptera: Polycentropodidae). The undescribed species belongs to the Oecetis inconspicua (Walker) species group (Trichoptera: Leptocendae).
