Abstract

The objective of this thesis was to recompute the results of the performance index estimation equation of British economy in 1969, as previously worked by A. G. Ivakhnenko, to verify the computational steps used in applying the Group Method of Data Handling to the above problem. Furthermore, it was intended to make a critical study of the rationale of each computational step used by A. G. Ivakhnenko, and to explore the possibility and application of improved steps as well as a comparative analysis of the final results in both approaches.

The estimation equation was developed and used in predicting the economic performance of Great Britain for the year 1969.

The modified approach in the Group Method of Data Handling was shown to lead to more accurate results as verified by the actual economic performance data available.
