Abstract

The Valley of Gibeon is a musical composition for full orchestra which is divided into three main divisions and which has a duration of about nine minutes. The basis of the composition is a seven-note model which is used to control various compositional parameters, among which are the formal structure, the tonal organization, and the harmonic structure. By deriving these parameters from a common source, they should exhibit a high degree of relatedness which should give the composition unity. This composition also contains experimentation with notational devices, independent tempos, and "atmospheric" music.
