Abstract

In this thesis project, a hand-held, microprocessor-based, battery operated instrument to accurately evaluate an air sensor switch has been designed, built and tested. The key component is a Motorola M68HC711, 8-bit microprocessor.


The prototype of the diagnostic tool for the air sensor has been evaluated both at a laboratory of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and at a check processing machine at a bank operating center. The preliminary results measured in both the simplified simulation device and a real custom check processor are satisfactory.
