Abstract

This report is intended mainly as an inventory of the religious situation in Tennessee. The suggestions offered for improving the rural church, and the comparison of sections of the State in different respects, are necessarily general, and will have to be altered to fit the conditions that exist from one community to another. As a thorough knowledge of local conditions is necessary for a detailed analysis of a particular problem, it would be difficult, if not impossible, for one person to know the needs of all rural churches. Hence there is a need in Tennessee for studies of individual communities in order that their problems may be better understood.
