Abstract

The primary purpose of this thesis, as here written, was to make an acceptance test upon a horizontal singled discharge spiral casing five hundred and twenty-five horse power reaction turbine, This turbine was furnished to the City of Cookeville for public utility purposes in connection with the electric lighting of that city by the Wellmen-Seaver-Morgan Co. of Cleveland Ohio.

This thesis was written for the purpose of producing the results of this test in an engineering statement and to furnish information in regard to the possible methods that may be employed in the performance of such a test. It was also intended to reveal some facts regarding the practicability of the brine method for determination of the velocity of flow in closed penstocks.
