Abstract
This is a study to determine the status of the public speech training program in the rural high schools of Tennessee and an effort to offer constructive help in the improvement of that program. The purposes of the study are as follows:
(1) To find to what extent our potential community leaders are receiving training in the art of public speaking.
(2) To determine what methods are being used in the development of public speakers.
(3) To find the shortcomings of our present speech-training setup.
