Abstract

This thesis is a qualitative analysis of various liquid rocket motor coaxial element fuel injector patterns, and their effect on combustion efficiency. The Performance/Life Combustion (PLC) Model, a computer program that analyzes gaseous fuel-liquid oxidizer combustion chambers, was used for the study. PLC is a submodel of the liquid rocket motor design code ROCket Combustor Interactive Design (ROCCID) Model. Modifications were made to PLC to improve its modelling procedures. Output from various injector layouts are presented in the form of tabulated values of combustion efficiency, and color plots of mixture ratio distributions at the throat of a combustion chamber. The data are analyzed and recommendations for future work are made.
