Earth shoring for cast-in-place and post tensioned bridge construction
This thesis offers engineers, contractors, and planners a model for the design, selection, and construction of cast-in-place and post-tensioned concrete bridges. Concrete bridges have traditionally been built using conventional falsework to support the loads, but failures have sometimes occurred in conventional falsework because of improper design or construction. The results of such failures are increased costs, reduced safety, time delays, and lowered profits. In addition, increases in construction cost, stiffer competition, and fewer construction projects require the adaptation of innovative concepts, such as those illustrated in this thesis, for the design and construction of temporary support systems. In particular, earth shoring represents an effective alternative to conventional falsework.
