Abstract

This thesis describes SIMON, a software tool that provides an environment for the study and analysis of operating systems. SIMON simulates a major portion of the VAX 11/780 instruction set as well as the VAX interrupt structure. This simulator is designed primarily for student use.

In this thesis VAX architecture is discussed, and features and restrictions of the simulator are presented. The thesis concludes with examples of program execution under the simulator.
