Algae Elimination in Spray Ponds and Cooling Systems
In this brief study of the methods of preventing algae growths, the writer has attempted to analyse the methods that have been successful in other fields and through this analysis arrive at some definite method of procedure that may be applicable in power plant operation and cooling systems where wide temperature differences are to be encountered. The conclusions are based on data obtained through experimentation. Although the methods herein described will not be applicable in a wide range of cases, the reader may be able to derive a plan of procedure to meet his own particular needs.
The author wishes to express his sincere thanks to those who have offered their assistance. Especially is he indebted to the Tennessee Public Service Company and the United States Aluminum Company for the use of their spray systems. To many others also he is indebted. Among them he wishes to mention the names of Prof. R. T. Brown who has assisted in estimating the comparative cost of systems herein described, and to Prof. W. R. Woolrich who has assisted in the organization and compilation of the material.
